From Cebu to UCSF
Dr. Garcia is from Cebu City, Philippines, where he completed his elementary and high school education at Don Bosco School for Boys, graduating as valedictorian of his class before immigrating to the United States to pursue medicine.
He grew up with early exposure to medicine through his mother's career, which influenced his path into the field. His mother was a prominent OB-GYN and pediatrician in Cebu with her own medical practice. She also taught at Velez College, the region's leading medical school at the time, where she served as Dean of Medicine and mentored a generation of aspiring physicians, including Dr. Lamberto Garcia and many others who went on to practice throughout the Philippines.
Dr. Garcia graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of California, San Francisco.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and holds the FACG designation as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. His clinical focus is on biliary tract and pancreatic diseases, with expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. Dr. Garcia practices general gastroenterology and hepatology in San Jose, California, and is affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital San Jose, El Camino Health Mountain View, Los Gatos Surgical Center, and National Ambulatory Surgery Center. He has practiced clinical medicine for more than twenty years and has published research on hepatitis B and hepatitis C in Asian American patient populations. Dr. Garcia's full clinical profile and credentials can be verified through his hospital affiliation listings.
For Dr. Garcia, medicine was never just a profession. Growing up with early exposure to healthcare and medical education through his mother's career, he witnessed firsthand the importance of mentorship, discipline, and high standards of patient care. Those early experiences stayed with him as he went on to build his medical career in the United States.
Today, those principles continue to shape MedGather. For Dr. Garcia, the company reflects the lessons learned throughout his exposure to healthcare: a commitment to training, accountability, and enabling others to do their best work. These principles guide how MedGather supports US healthcare practices in improving patient experience and operational efficiency.

Academic Journey
The Standard We Built
Dr. Garcia's clinical background shapes how MedGather operates every day. As a physician who has spent more than two decades handling patient records, prior authorizations, and EHR documentation, he understands exactly where administrative systems break down, and exactly what is at stake when patient data is handled carelessly.
That understanding led to MedGather's core operating principle: medical virtual assistants operate within a secure, company-managed office environment with direct supervision and built-in compliance controls, a model designed by a physician who has experienced the consequences of administrative failure firsthand.
How that office-based model works day to dayCommon Questions
Yes. Dr. Garcia continues to practice as a full-time gastroenterologist in San Jose, California, while serving as Founder and CEO of MedGather.
As a full-time practicing physician, Dr. Garcia saw firsthand how administrative overload pulls physicians away from the patient care that matters most. He founded MedGather to give healthcare practices a reliable way to ease that burden without compromising the timely, personalized support patients expect from their care team. At its core, MedGather was built around a simple goal: to help physicians spend more time practicing medicine and less time managing paperwork.
Dr. Garcia is a board-certified gastroenterologist through the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG). His clinical focus is on biliary tract and pancreatic diseases, with expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound.
Dr. Garcia's two decades of firsthand experience with patient records and administrative systems led him to build MedGather around a fully office-based, supervised model rather than the home-based arrangements most virtual assistant companies use. He has been direct that this distinction is the difference between compliance on paper and compliance in practice.
